“The Tempest” – one of Shakespeare’s last works and a timeless testament to the greatness of the English playwright. Set on a deserted island, the story focuses, like a magnifying glass, on the passions and dramas of shipwrecked individuals lost somewhere in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Its intricately interwoven threads form a narrative about the resurfacing structures of power in any circumstance, about colonial desires for possession and rule, about the blinding need for retribution for past wrongs, and finally – in a suspiciously joyful happy ending – about love and the mighty power of forgiveness.
In Katarzyna Minkowska’s contemporary interpretation, “The Tempest. Island Regulations” also becomes a story about the lights and shadows of art. Prospero, the demiurge, prepares his magnum opus here, dedicating his entire life – his and others’ – to the act of creation. The costs rise, and the boundaries between life and creation blur increasingly, more radically, more riskily, irreversibly.
How much is allowed to great talent? Why do we need great art? How much will the audience forgive and what do they expect? As always, we will decide in the end: “As you from crimes would pardon’d be / Let your indulgence set me free.

„”The Tempest. Island Regulations” is a very important voice in the discussion about hierarchy, sacrifice, and subordination in theatrical work, but also a dramatic tale on universal themes such as power, the need for freedom and rebellion, and most importantly – forgiveness.”
Piotr Dobrowolski, czaskultury.pl
„Thus, ‘The Tempest. Island Regulations’ fits into the ongoing discussion in our country about working in the artistic profession. About how it used to look, how it looks now, and whether it should look like this in the future. About how much a director can allow themselves with actors and crew members – artistic, technical, administrative. About why we allow ourselves to be objectified (not just in the theater, after all). (…) About how much our work defines us and whether it has to be this way.”
Marta Odziomek, dziennikteatralny.pl
„Visually, the opening storm scene is particularly memorable – it is phenomenal. It proves that Minkowska is a director who can combine the elements of words, movement, light, and sound into a cohesive and visually stunning whole.”
Kamil Bujny, teatrologia.info
„(…) wychodząc z teatru, chce się rozmawiać, badać własne ciało i emocje. I może to właśnie jest rewolucja seksualna na miarę naszych czasów.”
