The aim of the Living Classics competition is to foster interest among contemporary theatre-makers and audiences in historical works of Polish and European literature. It also seeks to revive forgotten or rarely staged plays and bring them back into today’s repertoires.

The festival presents original and innovative performances of high artistic quality, with strong social resonance. The competition was born out of a desire to reconnect with Poland’s rich theatrical traditions and to strengthen the dialogue between theatre and history.

The Opole Theatre Confrontations, which have enjoyed enduring popularity for many years, offer a unique opportunity to experience outstanding theatre productions from across Poland. These works engage with dramas created in different historical and cultural contexts—revealing surprising and thought-provoking insights into the human condition.
