SEPTEMBER 20th - 27th 2026
Opole Dance Stage returns as a vibrant hub of movement – a place where diverse choreographic languages, sensibilities, and energies come together. This year’s edition celebrates diversity in forms, themes, and ways of thinking about the body. Here, dance becomes both a personal statement and a shared experience: a space where ideas and visions of the world intersect and resonate.
On stage, stories unfold about time and everyday life, about the tension between action and postponement, about pressure and the need to pause. They are accompanied by a playful engagement with pop culture and social stereotypes, where humour and critical distance become tools for reclaiming one’s own voice. Alongside these narratives emerges a dynamic relationship with the audience, in which the boundaries between performers and spectators begin to blur, and a sense of shared experience is created in the here and now.
Movement and choreography reveal their fundamental qualities: rhythm, energy, repetition, and transformation. The body becomes a carrier of memory, styles, and tensions, while remaining in dialogue with its surroundings – with landscape, nature, and technology, which increasingly shapes our experience of presence and connection. The boundaries of the stage are expanded as dance enters into conversation with image, illusion, and virtual space, opening up experiences that engage audiences in direct and multidimensional ways.
An integral part of this year’s edition will be the Choreographic Laboratory led by Silvia Gribaudi. This intensive international creative process will bring artists together to explore audience engagement, the use of humour, and performative presence.
The festival programme is further enriched by a range of accompanying events designed to deepen the audience’s experience. Workshops led by Polish and international artists invite participants to engage directly with the body and explore diverse movement practices. Introductory talks and post-performance discussions create space for dialogue and offer insight into the creative processes behind the works presented. The programme will also feature a conversation around the latest book by Anna Królica, Ciało i pamięć w teatrach Tadeusza Kantora i Piny Bausch (en. Body and Memory in the Theatres of Tadeusz Kantor and Pina Bausch), devoted to the memory of the body and its role in the history of theatre and dance.
Opole Dance Stage is more than a festival – it is a space of encounter, exchange, and flow. A place where dance is constantly evolving, surprising, and moving us, opening up new ways of seeing, feeling, and being together.
