His hips moved with a slow grace – the hips of someone who had danced in front of a mirror long enough to seduce himself. The reflection was so vivid that all his sensuality, every pulse and rotation, seemed reward enough for his dance. I watched him pause his hips several times for half a second, as if checking whether the movement was still there, and then release them again. And that was when I understood that the iliofemoral ligament had become the strongest ligament in his entire body.

In the performance STORM, the central theme and driving force are the hips and the transformative energy rooted within them. Drawing on a personal history of dance – including Latin American ballroom dances and release technique – as well as the aesthetics of animation and Hollywood cinema from a century ago, Paweł Sakowicz sets the hips in motion: opening, rotating, tensing, and freezing, making them the primary instrument of this choreography.
