CLOSE

Early Years dance theatre performance by Children’s Art Centre in Poznań
The performance is part of the official Opole Dance Stage 2025 program.

Come closer, see, touch, feel. Look inside. Our stories – hidden one in another, wait to be discovered. CLOSE becomes an adventure – a search for mysteries which can be found in each of us.

CLOSE is a show about building relations. Two dancers reveal to the audience a world of magical ties which have always bound people together. Closeness – I, you, we – the family. We all carry inside a small part of it. By building ties, step by step, we open ourselves to others. What does caring for others mean? How can we care for another person? How can we look after each other? These are just some of the questions, so important for the development of our emotions, which the creators of the performance are trying to answer together with very small spectators.

Dancing couple on a round stage – the circle of life and commonwealth, and at its centre a matrioshka – symbol of motherhood, but at the same time an object concealing inside lots of surprises. This traditional doll form acquires a modern touch and may be creatively processed – both by the artists and the audience. Form becomes the starting point for a conversation without words, where closeness, touch, tenderness become the most important topics.

Show produced as a part of the project “Small size, performing arts for early years” made in the frame of Creative Europe programme.

“Art has been created that, due to its infinite meanings and aesthetic richness, defies easy description. […]
We sense we’re getting closer to the point, touch it—only for it to escape and give way to the next. […]
Elements emerge from one another, coexist, yet stand independently.

The artists achieved a rare balance: a show engaging for young children and equally meaningful for adults.
On an almost empty stage, a cascade of images unfolds. A huge egg stands in the centre.
A rhythm pulses. It opens—greenery fills the space, leaves sprout, birds and tortoises hatch.
Nature awakens in harmony. Macrocosm.”
