Based on A Practical Guide to Marital Bliss by Michalina Wisłocka
THE ART OF LOVEMAKING
It can start with an argument in the doctor’s queue or with spilling coffee on someone. It can start when we want to buy the same couch or from an accident where someone is almost run over by a big dumpster. It can start with going to bed together or meeting after years of school love. It can start with wine, at a dansing, at a book club. It can start anywhere, and most often when we don’t expect it at all. Our hands sweat, our eyes glaze over, and our heart beats so hard that for a moment we wonder if it’s a heart attack. And we already know it can’t be stopped. And we already know that we don’t want to stop it. And we already know that this person – is our person!
After that, things vary. Sometimes everything goes right, and sometimes everything goes wrong. The art of loving another person turns out to be more complicated than we assumed. What to do then?

A Practical Guide to Marital Bliss (the exact polish title means: The Art of Lovemaking) is now a classic, and in the 1970s and 1980s revolutionary, popular science proposal on the topics of sex, emotionality, intimacy and building harmonious relationships. Addressed primarily to those embarking on their adventure with sex and love, it explains in simple terms the intricate mechanisms of the human psyche and physiology, provides detailed advice on techniques of fondling and intercourse, and reminds us of the role of flirtation, coquetry, or personal hygiene in matters of successful sex.
In Mira Mańka’s play, we look into the brain of a man in love, who, after recent amorous-erotic failures, has decided to reach out for factual support. Looking at Michalina Wisłocka’s advice, observations and conclusions, he playfully confronts what he knows and doesn’t know about sex, intimacy, and attentiveness.

“Mańka’s performance fulfils the premises of culture and middle-of-the-road theatre, allowing audiences who simply want to have a good time at the theatre to also reflect on an important social issue and participate in artistic life.”
Kamil Bujny, teatrologia.info
“[…] leaving the theatre, one wants to talk, to explore one’s own body and emotions. And maybe that’s the sexual revolution of our time.”
