SHOWCASE | MARCH 1st - 3rd

This year’s edition is part of the “20 years of Opolskie Voivodeship in the European Union” celebrations
organised by the Marshal’s Office of the Opole Voivodeship.

JK Opole Theatre is once again gearing up for the Showcase! This year under the theme “European Weekend at JK Opole Theatre”. It will be a review of our most interesting premieres of recent years, accessible to international audiences through transcription in English (subtitles). The event is a unique opportunity to catch up with the repertoire in 3 days and take part in meetings with the creators. Our Showcase will be accompanied by a discussion of the Polish theatre system against the background of European systems with the participation of experts from Poland and Europe.

The programme includes two performances that give voice to people who are overlooked in the broad discourse, i.e. ‘Four Good Reasons to Leave All of This Behind’, directed by Norbert Rakowski, and ‘A Manual for Cleaning Women’, directed by Olga Ciężkowska and based on Lucia Berlin’s short stories.

The Opole showcase also includes a classic of world drama – ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ by Tennessee Williams, directed by Radek Stępień. The review will also include a performance of ‘Institute’, based on the novel by Jakub Żulczyk, a play created by the Actors’ Initiatives Stage.

The programme will also include one of our international premieres, ‘I’m Nowhere / Desvanecimiento’, directed by Norbert Rakowski, realised as a co-production with Teatros del Canal in Madrid and the Divine Comedy Festival in Kraków.

In addition to the programme of theatrical events, there will also be meetings with the audience after the performances. We also invite you to two panel discussions, during which we will reflect on the shape of theatre in Europe and the directions of changes that can be proposed in the Polish theatre system.

Europejskie Forum Teatralne odbędzie się w Teatrze im. Jana Kochanowskiego w Opolu.
Organizowane jest przez Komisję Europejską.

At the Contemporary Art Gallery in Opole, Angelika Markul will present a new iteration of her project Gardło diabła (en. The Devil’s Throat). Like most of the artist’s works, the exhibition will reflect on the untamed power of nature, humanity’s place in the history of the world, the passage of time, memory – both individual and “cosmic” – as well as the inevitable and the transcendent beyond human capabilities.
