Opole Theatre Confrontations Festival is one of the most important theatre festivals in the country, which has been hosting the Polish classics on the stages of the JK Opole Theatre for 47 years.

The festival is the final of the nationwide ‘Classics Alive’ Competition for the staging of old works of Polish literature, organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw.

The aim of the ‘Classics Alive’ Competition is to strengthen contemporary Polish theatre companies’ interest in old literature and to demonstrate its potential for the stage.

The festival showcases original, innovative performances of high artistic quality and strong social resonance. The competition was born out of the need to refer to these excellent traditions and strengthen the theatrical dialogue with history.

Opole Theatre Confrontations Festival, which have been very popular for years, are a unique opportunity to get acquainted with awarded theatrical productions from all over Poland. They are attempts to face the dramas, created in a different historical and cultural context, bringing a different – often very surprising – knowledge of man than ours.
