PAYSAGE follows the choreographic journey of a group on the move. The dancers are both silhouettes in movement and creators of the paths they walk.

The creation of the piece draws on the concrete experiences of walking to create a form of abstraction on stage that focuses on bodies in movement. Accompanied by electronic musician Simon Carlier on stage, the performers’ tirelessly repeated gestures plunge them into a collective emotion. Through the idea of walking together – side by side, in single line or spread out – the dance questions the role of the group in creating a common foundation, a living architecture in constant motion. And, at the heart of this exploration, emerge the notions of challenge and surpassing oneself, where a mixture of strengths and fragilities intertwine.

‘Our first sources of inspiration were images of grandiose landscapes, in which we could perceive the presence of individuals on different scales: nomads, climbers overhanging cliffs or simple, elusive silhouettes’.

Halfway between choreography and photography, Julien Carlier places the relationship between body and space at the heart of his work. This encounter sensitively underlines the transformation of the dancers’ bodies. Deployed on stage through liminal scenic compositions, made up of layers and perspectives, they invite the spectator on an excursion of fluctuating relationships of scale.
