Humani Corporis Fabrica

DESCRIPTION

Creating a duet of mature dancers Ryszard Kalinowski and Grzegorz Pańtak, choreographer Jacek Przybyłowicz draws inspiration from the beginnings of anatomical research and from philosophical reflections on machinery and the transience of the body. Humani corporis fabrica is a peculiar kind of anatomical lecture, a "choreographic audio play", voiced by Andrzej Chyra.

The context for the present is the time when modern medicine was born, of which first reflections were often communicated in a quasi-theatrical and artistic way. The same moment when yet another way of looking at the body was taking shape at aristocratic courts: theatrical dance.

Dance, abandoning youth and perfection on the section table, is here an area where a peculiar process of individuation, processing knowledge and experiencing the world through the body and its functionalities takes place.

The spectator becomes a participant in a kind of theatrum anathomicum, the dancer is viewed through the prism of changing physiology and productivity, while the choreography explores themes of fatigue, exhaustion, and transience.
