REALITY SHOW(S). CIRCUS OF DREADFUL THINGS

What do you associate fear with? Paralysing anxiety? What would have to happen for you to hide in your furniture for 25 years? A loan in Swiss francs? A bailiff?
The realisation that the building you inhabited a hundred years ago was hiding for much more serious reasons?
Whatever it was caused by, Bożena was struck by fear. She sits enclosed within the four walls of her furniture cabinet as a passionate tragicomedy unfolds outside, starring her husband and Jews.

A real reality show in which it is not clear whether it is more funny or scary. The anxieties of transformation have settled into our heads for good, although they still fight for attention with the anxieties instilled in us by previous generations. Unconsciously, we displace some to make room for another. And we pass on, believing that our transformation will be the last one.

„ NIE WIEM KIM SĄ „ONI”. NIE POTRAFIMY NAWET SIĘ DOMYŚLIĆ. MOGĄ BYĆ NASZYMI SĄSIADAMI. MOGĄ BYĆ DAWNYMI ZNAJOMYMI, KTÓRYCH KIEDYŚ NIECHCĄCY SKRZYWDZILIŚMY, BYŁYMI DZIEWCZYNAMI, CHŁOPAKAMI, MĘŻAMI, RODZINĄ ..."

“Terrible things are: transformation, furniture, future. There is something to be afraid of and something to laugh at. The black and at times absurd humor of Przemysław Pilarski’s play is the strength of the performance directed by Jan Hussakowski. At least on the surface, because emotion is more important than laughter, and whether we laugh at tears or through tears becomes a fundamental question.”

Dominik Gac, teatralny.pl

“Opole’s counter-story of transformation, told from the position of a weak and clumsy person, brilliantly maintains the balance between terror and laughter. Hussakowski keeps this difficult, theatrical collage in check…”

Wiktoria Formella, e-teatr.pl

„(…) potrafi rozśmieszyć, a nieraz też skłonić do refleksji. Działa jak dobrze skrojone kino gatunkowe, z rozwiązaniami z którymi teatr, moim zdaniem, mógłby częściej eksperymentować”.
