The opening of the new theatre building in 1975 represented the founding of the Jan Kochanowski Theatre in Opole. The theatre facilities, its three stages and The Main Stage with a seating capacity of 577 made it the largest theatre in Poland. The theatre of today is a completely modern theatre. It is continually working to refine its high standards in its technical ability and artistic ensemble.

The Odyssey

The repertoire of the Jan Kochanowski Theatre offers performances designed to attract an audience demanding a rich intellectual experience, artistic risk and diverse forms of theatrical expression.

Numerous awards and invitations to many domestic and international festivals have increased the prestige of the theatre. According to critics, the theatre has recently been considered as one of the most interesting theatre centers in the country with artistic excellence of the highest standard.

Macbeth

In recent seasons Opole Theatre has undoubtedly become a place of meeting and dialogue for the young Polish theatre, a space where everything which is novel, creative, risky, crossing borders and questioning canons in theatre finds its place and justification. It is here where performances are created by the directors who, for several years, have been setting the standard and forming the style of the Polish theatre (Maja Kleczewska, Michał Borczuch, Krzysztof Garbaczewski) – the style which, however, as represented by each of them is an individual creation, their own, autonomous theatre language.
